OLOPSCians Embrace Filipino Culture in the Age of AI Through Intersection Competitions

Aligned with the goal of enriching the Filipino language amid the advancement of modern technology, the Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College (OLOPSC) Junior High School Department commemorated Buwan ng Wika 2026 with the theme, “Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon,” on September 3.

As part of the celebration, the Filipino Subject Area revived its annual intersection competitions, providing students with an avenue to showcase their mastery of the Filipino language, creativity, confidence, and appreciation of Filipino culture.

The Grade 7 students competed in “Rap Mo, Wika Mo,” while the Grade 8 students showcased their skills in “Madamdaming Pagbasa” through the piece “Ako ang Wika.”

Meanwhile, Grade 9 students participated in “Musikahang Pinoy,” while Grade 10 students performed “Sabayang Pagbigkas” featuring the poem “Wikang Filipino, AI, at ang Tatak OLOPSCIAN.”

The following sections emerged as the top performers in their respective competitions:

Grade 7 – Rap Mo, Wika Mo

Grade 8 – Madamdaming Pagbasa ▸ Champion: Divine Mercy ▸ 1st Runner-Up: Good Shepherd ▸ 2nd Runner-Up: Blessed Comforter

Grade 9 – Musikahang Pinoy ▸ Champion: Amazing Grace ▸ 1st Runner-Up: Wonderful Counselor ▸ 2nd Runner-Up: Holy Trinity

Grade 10 – Sabayang Pagbigkas ▸ Champion: Assumption of Mary ▸ 1st Runner-Up: Mother of Good Counsel ▸ 2nd Runner-Up: Coronation of Mary

Despite the excitement surrounding the competitions, students also encountered challenges during their preparations. Aeneid Gonzales, a Grade 10 student, shared that their section experienced difficulties due to limited practice time, varying levels of cooperation, and conflicting schedules that resulted in incomplete attendance during rehearsals.

“Through our perseverance and determination to overcome these challenges, we were able to work together harmoniously as a section to adapt from these hardships,” expressed Gonzales.

The competitions demonstrated how students can use their talents and creativity to celebrate Filipino language and culture while engaging with the realities of modern technology. More than a showcase of performances, the activities encouraged teamwork, discipline, perseverance, and appreciation of Filipino identity.

As OLOPSC continues to celebrate Buwan ng Wika, the Junior High School Department remains committed to providing meaningful activities that preserve and promote Filipino language and heritage while preparing students to navigate an increasingly technology-driven world.
