HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
1976
Inspired to contribute to the community development of Marikina, which Mr. Dionisio Alonzo Salvador Sr. and Mrs. Carmen Caday Salvador had chosen as their permanent home, the couple from Laoag City, Ilocos Norte opened a day care center on what used to be a pelota court along Bayan-Bayanan Avenue in Concepcion, Marikina.
Being devotees of Mary, Mr. and Mrs. Salvador named the center Our Lady of Perpetual Succor Day Care Center. It offered Nursery, Kindergarten and Preparatory courses and had around 50 pupils at the start of its operation.
1978
The day care center was converted into a formal school and registered with the Securities and Exchange Commission as a non-stock, non-profit corporation under the name Our Lady of Perpetual Succor School (OLOPSS) with the Grade 1 level as its initial offering. In the same year, the founders rented a 2,200 square meter lot along T. Bugallon Street, just across the day care center.
The increasing enrollment from this year onward led to the opening of additional grade levels every year.
1981
A 4,400 square meter lot in front of the Bugallon campus was also rented to accommodate the first batch of Grade 6 pupils.
1982
This year marked another milestone in the history of the school with the opening of the Secondary Education program.
1985
The school received full government recognition for the Pre-elementary, Elementary and Secondary courses by the then Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
With the influx of more students, the school finally purchased a 1.3-hectare land along Gen. Ordoñez Street, which became the permanent home of OLOPSS.
1986
The school graduated its first batch of 4th year high school students, which registered an impressive percentile average of ninety seven per cent (97 %) in the National College Entrance Examination (NCEE).
1993
The school was given academic/curricular deregulation through DECS Order No. 51 for being in the Top 250 Secondary Schools nationwide based on NCEE and NSAT results and as one of the Top 100 elementary schools nationwide based on the results of the NEAT.
1995
OLOPSS opened its College Department and was renamed Our Lady of Perpetual Succor College (OLOPSC). On its initial year, it offered Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Elementary Education, Bachelor of Secondary Education, Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Associate in Computer Science, and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a total of 86 students across the different courses.
1996
This year saw another dream come true for the OLOPSC community with the construction of the school chapel, now a landmark proudly gracing the façade of the main building.
1997
The High School ranked No. 6 in the Division Level of the NSAT while the Grade School ranked No. 7 in the Division Level of the NEAT.
1998
The school earned additional recognition for ranking 6th among high schools in the Division of Marikina based on NSAT results and the Grade School ranking 7th as per results of the NEAT.
In the same year, the College Department opened vocational-technical courses for high school graduates who wished to be trained in technical skills.
1999
Summer of 1999 witnessed the rise of the new two-story building for Grades 1 and 2. Instead of the usual stairway, the building was purposely designed with a ramp for the safety and convenience of the pupils.
2000
OLOPSC pushed forward for more developments from this year onwards. Academic structures were upgraded alongside the physical plant and facilities, among which was the installation of the air conditioning units in the Grade School classrooms.
2003
The school celebrated its Silver Jubilee. It is in this year that classrooms in the High School Department were provided with air conditioning units.
2005
This year saw the demise of Mr. Dionisio Alonzo Salvador, Sr. on August 11 due to a dissecting aneurysm of the aorta. Though his journey was over at the early age of 68, his memory still lives on in OLOPSC and in the hearts of all OLOPSCians because of the legacy he has bequeathed to the community through his values, accomplishments, and the powerful examples of the way he lived his life.
2006
Co-founder, Mrs. Carmen C. Salvador took over the reins of the school leadership upon her installation as the second President of OLOPS College on her 65th birthday, September 17, 2006.
2008
The school marked its 30th year or Pearl Jubilee Celebration. The highlights included the opening of additional courses in college: Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management and two vocational-technical courses – Certificate in Caregiving and Certificate in Office Operations; and the launching of the Carmen C. Salvador Scholarship Program.
2010
In March of this year, an additional lot along T. Bugallon Street was purchased for future expansion. On June 4 of this year, the school inaugurated its HRM Center with a commercial kitchen and a dining hall simulating a hotel facility to serve as a laboratory for its Hotel and Restaurant Management students.
On December 3, the Dionisio A. Salvador, Sr. Building, which houses the refurbished gymnasium and activity center, was inaugurated.
2012
With DepEd’s implementation of the Universal Kindergarten Education Program, the K to 12 Curriculum was adopted in the Preschool Department and the nomenclature of Kinder and Prep were changed to Kinder 1 and Kinder 2, respectively.
2013
This year marked the school’s Emerald or 35th foundation year. It was celebrated with the theme, “OLOPSC AT 35, A SOCIO-ECOLOGICALLY RESPONSIVE COMMUNITY.” The highlight of the anniversary was the opening of the Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management course.
With the signing into law of Republic Act 10533, known as the Enhanced Basic Education Program, the progressive implementation of the K to 12 Curriculum began in the Grade School and in the High School.
The Grade School was declared as Division Champion in the 33rd National Quiz Bee and represented the Division in the Regional Competition.
The High School Department was awarded the applicant status by the Philippine Accrediting Agencies of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
2014
The High School Department was awarded the candidate status by the Philippine Accrediting Agencies of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
2015
This year marked the complete implementation of the K to 12 program in the Junior High School Department.
In partnership with Scholastic, Inc., OLOPSC adopted a key literacy program: the Reading Enrichment and Assessment Program (REAP) for the Kinder 2, Grade School, and High School. Alongside the program was the provision of the Scholastic Reading Centers.
On June 16, 2015, OLOPSC was issued the Government Permit to offer Senior High School programs – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM); Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM); Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS); and General Academic Strand (GAS) under the Academic Track; Tour Guiding Services and Bread and Pastry Production Strands under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track.
2016
The Grade School Department was awarded the applicant status by the Philippine Accrediting Agencies of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
On March 1, 2016, OLOPSC was issued additional Government Permits for the Senior High School to offer Cookery and Food and Beverage Services strands under the Technical-Vocational-Livelihood Track.
The commercial building beside OLOPSC was acquired from DC Arcadia, Inc. and was renovated to serve as the new College building. It was blessed and inaugurated on August 15, 2016 during a commemoration of the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The construction of a 4-story CS Building – named after the OLOPSC co-founder, Carmen C. Salvador – was completed. This structure houses the Senior High School Department and it is the first building that is using renewable energy through solar panels. It was blessed and inaugurated on September 8, 2016 as the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary was commemorated.
To foster spiritual formation among OLOPSCians through retreats, recollections, prayer service, celebration of the Holy Eucharist and catechism, the Campus Ministry was formed and headed by the first and current school chaplain, Fr. Benjie Notarte.
On September 17, 2016 the co-founder and 2nd President of OLOPSC, Carmen C. Salvador celebrated her Diamond Jubilee. As a tribute to her 75th birthday, the school held a pilgrimage to seven Marian churches in Cavite, a tree planting activity, and the Binyagang Bayan. The school adopted a new beneficiary of its generosity, Kanlungan ni Maria, a home for the elderly in Antipolo City.
On November 29, 2016, OLOPSC made a public declaration towards achieving a sustainable and eco-friendly campus and leading the cause for environmental sustainability in Marikina and its neighboring cities.
2017
This year marked the prelude to the school’s 40th Founding Anniversary. As a celebration overture, the school launched the 2017 Philosophy, Vision, and Mission together with the newly defined OLOPSC brand in February, highlighting campus sustainability and learner empowerment.
The Grade School Department was awarded the candidate status by the Philippine Accrediting Agencies of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
The College Department received the Government Recognition for the course Bachelor of Science in Tourism Management.
On December 15, 2017, the High School Department was granted the Level I Accredited Status by the Federation of Accrediting Agencies of the Philippines for fulfilling the requirements of the Philippines Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
2018
This year marked the school’s Ruby or 40th Founding Anniversary. The highlight of the year’s celebration was the Level I Accredited Status granted to the Grade School Department by the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).
2019
The Grade School incessantly brought honor and glory to the school with victories in various academic and sports competitions. The most remarkable of which was the winning in the 2019 National Schools Press Conference held in Lingayen, Pangasinan.
This year marked the transition in school leadership with the installation of Dr. Armida Salvador Samaniego as the third President of OLOPSC on June 30, 2019.
Ten delegates from the College Division of OLOPSC participated in a cultural immersion and benchmarking visit in Taipei on November 7-9, 2019.
Twenty Junior and Senior High students participated in the Singapore Science Jamboree on November 20-24, 2019 held in Singapore.
2020
On January 24, 2020, OLOPSC received from CHED the permit to operate Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship beginning AY 2020-2021.
Construction of the O’ Kafe completed in February. It is a restaurant owned by OLOPSC, which will serve as a training laboratory in business and restaurant service & operations.
DepEd issued a permit for the OLOPSC Senior High to offer a new track, the Arts and Design Track, and an additional Technical-Vocational-Livelihood strand which is the Information, Communications & Technology.
The Marikina government partnered with OLOPSC for the offering of a Senior High Afternoon Shift program to 500 Junior High completers from Marikina public schools intending to receive private school education.
OLOPSC and San Beda University signed a Memorandum of Agreement for the conduct of MBA program in OLOPSC.
OLOPSC launched its new branding campaign – “We are ready to fill tomorrow’s BIG shoes.”
With the onset of COVID-19
In response to the changes and challenges brought by the crisis inevitably entailed by a pandemic, the institution implemented measures to sustain continuity in learning.
Preliminary modifications were timely implemented as regards matters of inquiries, promotion, enlistment, registration, enrollment – all of which had digital platforms to maintain operations both online and onsite.
On May 28, 2020, OLOPSC launched its virtual school, the HoBS (Home-Based School). Flexible Learning Mode is offered to provide convenience and access to students both synchronously and asynchronously.
Learning Continuity Plans specifically intended to address the needs of the learners were conceptualized by the different departments.
Faculty members and concerned personnel were highly encouraged to attend training and series of webinars to adopt and upgrade on instructions, content, procedures and relative essentials and deliverables.
Trial online classes were scheduled and conducted in all departments to purposely assess the preparedness and readiness of the school in offering home-based schooling.
Computer hubs for faculty were also created.
2021
In celebration of the school’s 43rd founding anniversary, OLOPSC relaunched its tagline, “OLOPSC Empowers Learners” and strengthened this school brand through its programs, projects, and activities.
In March, OLOPSC became the first school in Marikina City to be a PressReader Hotspot that offers access to thousands of digital local and international newspapers and magazines.
On March 29, OLOPSC forged a new partnership with Hospitality Institute of America-Philippines, Inc. for the On-the-Job training (OJT) of its Hospitality Management students.
In June and July, the first completers and graduates of the HoBS culminated the completion of their courses through virtual rites.
In the second year of implementation of the HoBS, the school reinstated academic services and other offerings which were disabled during its initial year.
The OLOPSC President Scholarship Program was introduced to provide free College education to qualified beneficiaries.
2022
In January, O’kafe by OLOPSC opened its doors to the public and held its grand opening on February 25, employing 3 OLOPSC alumni as part of its pioneer crew of 5 members.
OLOPSC was one of the 4 schools tapped by the Marikina local government to be a pediatric COVID vaccination center that catered to around 1,500 children.
On March 23, OLOPSC was the first private school to be granted the safety seal In compliance with EO 16, s. 2021, The Safety Seal Certification Program of the Marikina local government.
In April, OLOPSC was among the few private schools that conducted the pilot limited face-to-face classes in Marikina.
On May 21, OLOPSC HoBS was relaunched as HoBS Plus, which is the enhanced version of the former, combining both online and in-person classes for SY 2022-2023.
With the easing of government restrictions on the conduct of in-person year-end rites, OLOPSC was able to hold its Grade School, Senior High School, and College Graduation Rites and Junior High School Moving Up Rites in-person in June and July.
For school year 2022-2023, the nomenclature Nursery (formerly Junior Nursery) and Pre-Kinder (formerly Senior Nursery) was adopted in the Preschool Department.
