The COVID-19 pandemic did not prevent the Senior High School from conducting their school activities. Through virtual planning and execution of the approved activities for students, the STEM Strand brought a remarkable experience onto the learners’ screens in the safety of their homes last September 1 – 30, 2020 through the OLOPSC SHS Facebook Page with the theme:
“Pushing through the New sySTEM: Connection through Virtual Communication”
The aim was to continuously promote learning and awareness while addressing the role of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in the new normal through these interactive activities – KARTEL: Significance and Style Toward Digital Poster Making and Low Cost “STEM” Play chaired by the two energetic STEM teachers – Ms. Roveinna Salting and Mr. Kyle Alison Castaño respectively.
Truly, empowering the learners while we guide them will always bring out their innate skills and talents as they express themselves in this new format of learning while having fun.
KARTEL: Significance and Style Toward Digital Poster Making

In celebration of STEM Month, the STEM and GAS Strands had integrated some of their activities for our dear STEM students. One of the activities was the “KARTEL: Significance and Style Towards Digital Poster Making”.
“Kartel” is a word that is of Spanish origin that means paper, cloth or anything that usually has a sketch or anything written that announces news or advertisement. When translated in Filipino, it means poster, placard or “paskil”; leaflet or “polyeto.” This activity showcased the STEM Trivia that involved and engaged the students by using different media.
The Digital Trivia Posters made by Grade 11 and 12 students in their English for Academic and Professional Purposes (EAPP) and Media and Information Literacy (MIL) classes were posted on the SHS Facebook page. These Digital Trivia Posters were considered as their performance task for the said subjects.
Here at OLOPSC Senior High, we hone our students’ creativity as we offer various ways to make learning more fun!
Low-Cost STEMplay

The Low-Cost STEMplay was an online competition spearheaded by the STEM Strand in celebration of STEM Month 2020. This was inspired by the term “cosplay,” a portmanteau of the words costume play, where one dresses up as a character from a movie, book, or video game.
The Grades 11 and 12 STEM students from the Morning and the Afternoon shifts showcased various concepts, great people, and figures under STEM and engaged viewers about the field through “cosplay” without spending for their costumes and props because all the materials used are found in their homes.
Winners were Santos, Eirene Angelica (11-Timothy) in First Place; Ignacio, Mia Clarrise (12-Ezekiel) in Second Place: while Miguel, Roniela (11-Thessalonians) and Pascual, Janna Mikaela (11-Philippians) shared the Third Place. Paragas, Jammile (11-St. James) won the wittiest cosplay award for garnering the highest number of reactions from accounts that liked the OLOPSC SHS page.
