Before we even heard of COVID-19, our Business and Management Programs held many successful events that the students were able to experience in a normal school setting. The pandemic indeed brought many changes but it did not prevent the OLOPS College Department from brining engaging, relevant, and informative topics to students and to all the audiences.
OLOPS College Department held a 3-day event on May 6-8, 2021 entitled “Skills and Business Exposition” via Zoom. It was hosted by the OLOPSC Business and Management Programs.
Aside from our dear students, the College Department was able to invite other schools such as Philippine Malabon Cultural Institute, San Francisco High School, University of the East, Bestlink College of the Philippines, San Jose National High School, San Anton National High School, Trace College Los Baños, Osmeña College, Bicol University, Ismael Mathay Senior High School, Marikina High School, STI College Marikina, World Citi Colleges, Centro Escolar University, National University, Cebu Institute of Technology University, Marikina Catholic School, National Christine Life College, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina, Nangka High School, and South Hill School Inc.
DAY 1: D.E.E.P WEBINAR SERIES
Day 1 was hosted by the Business Administration Program. The first topic was about “Financial Literacy: Smart Decisions in Managing Personal Finances”. The guest speakers – yours truly, Ms. Erica Collin Manlulu, and Mr. Jeremy Lanac, 4th year students in the BSBA Marketing Management Program – were able to provide practical and relevant information on how to manage personal finances such as savings and investments.
The second topic was about E-Commerce and Internet Business presented by competent and knowledgeable speakers, Ms. Katherine Morales and Mr. Gener Ingua, our very own professors in the department. They were able to share tips on how to do business online as it is very timely in this time of pandemic. This day was indeed filled with engaging and enlightening topics that the audience was able to grasp.
DAY 2: SKILLS SHOWDOWN
Day 2 was also an exciting event, this time hosted by the Tourism and Hospitality Management. There were learning insights for kitchen enthusiasts, aspiring hoteliers, entrepreneurs, travel and tour coordinators and event managers. Our dear talented students and mentors were able to showcase their expertise during the Skills Showdown.
The virtual setup was not a problem for Chef Chrysoberly H. Morales who demonstrated his cooking expertise online. He was able to answer questions while cooking and the audience was filled with much excitement. It is same with Mr. Jadefortis S. Pulongbarit during his demonstration of Basic Japanese Language for Beginners. Our audience learned a lot of basic words in Japanese and how they can be applied to common conversational situations. All of the students were engaged as he presented example words, expressions, and sentences.
Our dear students from Tourism Management and Hospitality Management Programs had their demonstrations too – Cooking Demonstration by Ms. Eunice Erika Bautista, Flight Attendant Safety Demonstration by Ms. Alexis Elise Isorena, Property Management System and Hotel Front Office System Presentation by Ms. Allyssa Nicole Tarinque, and Virtual Tour Guiding in the New Normal by Ms. Lee Tricia Anne Quien.
DAY 3: BUSINESS EXHIBIT
Day 3 was hosted again by the Business Administration Program. Selected students showcased and shared their interactive presentation skills for business plans, distribution plans, retail plans, workplace environment health programs, students’ corporate social responsibility programs and industry selection and recruitment processes.
It was full of relevant information especially to those students who are about to pursue their college journey in the coming school year and those students who are already taking up courses such as Business Administration major in Marketing Management and Human Resource Development Management, Tourism Management, Hospitality Management and Business Entrepreneurship.
This 3-day event was successful because of the event organizers, mentors, faculty members, and students who took their time and worked hard to organize such an event. A pandemic is not a hindrance to empower learners and to inspire them to continue their education amidst the prevailing crisis. The whole institution advocates for continuity in learning as OLOPSC HoBS Program has continued to provide quality education to students.
