Faculty Development Program attuned with OLOPSC’s theme

Mrs. Karen Alver L. Arenas

To realize this year’s theme of making positive changes towards excellence, the College faculty attended a 2-day Faculty Development Program at the Retreat House of from at Assumption School, Antipolo city from November 7-8, 2011.

Professors, headed by Dr. Elsa A. Orlina, the college dean, brainstormed on various essential matters involving the curricula, faculty manual, new trends in instruction, grading system and most importantly, the students’ code of discipline.

One of the highlights during the first day of the Faculty Development Program was the talk of Mr. Virgilio Santos, DepEd Supervisor II for Region IV-B who emphasized on how the newest approach in Education- Understanding By Design can be applied in tertiary teaching. After learning the basics of the “Big Ideas”, Atty. Youra Villaruz, generously gave her suggestions in improving the students’ code of discipline. In the afternoon, the Area chairs presented their outputs and achievements, as well as their plans for the second semester.

The second day began with a mass which blessed the faculty for the activities that followed. One of which was Father Sandy Enhaynes’ inspirational talk that reminded the professors of their identity not only as teachers but as Christians who see Christ in other people. Research and Community Extension and Student activities for the second semester were also elaborated by the respective coordinators. The day ended with the Dean’s hour that challenged each professor to holistically develop their students.

It was a tedious yet a fruitful 2-day program for all faculty members. All for the greater glory of God.

Celebrating 70 years with a grateful Heart

Mrs. Karen Alver L. Arenas

Christmas, New Year and Valentine’s Day are some of those occasions we look forward to during the three hundred sixty-five days of a tiring year. But one we never forget is our birthday and the birthday of people dear to us. These are joyful occasions to celebrate life and start another year of hope for the great things in life that makes one happy and fulfilled.

September 17 marks the birthday of our beloved president, Madam Carmen C. Salvador ,the woman behind the success of the Big Boss, the late Mr. Dionisio A Salvador Sr. and the moving spirit behind the metamorphosis of OLOPSC from a small day care center to the school that it is today.

Deeply spiritual as the President is, the day’s celebration started with a 9:00 a.m. holy mass offered in thanksgiving for the 70 good years and the countless blessings that God has gifted her and her family. The Eucharistic celebration, officiated by Rev. Father Rafael Brabano, was attended by members of her immediate family , relatives , her big OLOPSC family and her outreach beneficiaries from Margaretha’s Home for the Blind. Before the mass ended, the air was filled with a salvo of cheers and birthday greetings from well wishers . Wishful birthday messages and simple tokens of love and gratitude also came from the heads of offices in behalf of their staff . Lunch was served after the thanksgiving mass.

Later that evening, streams of relatives, friends and co-workers joined the Salvador family for an evening of revelry to celebrate this milestone in the life of Maam Carmen . The evening, which was strictly a formal affair, unfolded with the entry of the celebrant escorted by her grandchildren amidst fanfare and a shower of flowers.

The tribute to the President was high in emotions .Let alone the messages and anecdotes of relatives and friends , the Salvador children’s touching rendition of the song “Thanks to You “ left the audience teary-eyed. There were also power point presentations where the guests had a glimpse of other highlights and untold stories in the celebrant’s life clipped from the President’s coffee table book. As a fitting gift from the children for the inequitable love and care of their Mom , the coffee table book entitled “The Legacy” brings many happy returns that the President will surely treasure for the rest of her life.

There was a profuse buffet of food to sate everyone’s palate.

As the party heated up ,the teachers’ all clad in their formal gowns, took center stage for a Cotillon de Honor choreographed to suit an adult celebrant.

After a surprise number from the Salvador grandchildren, the President balled with the three remaining debonairs in her life, her three as the guests also took it to the dancefloor and danced to the rhythm of ballroom music and classic oldies but goodies.

Indeed, it was a night to remember. The celebration was crafted to express the gratitude of the celebrant for the gift of life in much the same way that it expressed the gratitude of immediate family, relatives friends and co-workers to someone so well loved and respected as the President.

Again , happy birthday Maam Carmen! Many happy returns of the day and more to come !!!
